Welcome to TigerLily Trail Hammocks a.k.a Hammocks by Dina.
How HBD Got Started: Summer of 2010 I opened up a rattery specializing in dumbo rats in Mink & Siamese. My hope was that I could spread the word about how great rats are as pets by providing friendly healthy well bred rats for the public, but after about a year the economy got so bad that it became very rare for someone to purchase rats so I closed the rattery (I still have some of the rats from litters I bred & they age from adult to middle aged!). Why breed if there was no market? Anyways to help pay for the care of the rats I started sewing & selling some basic style hammocks. Some of the hammocks I made were also used for my rats :) & still are (not to mention the ferrets). Ive kept my breeders as retired pets & im still sewing & selling hammocks to help care for my rats as well as some of my other critters since Im pretty heavily involved in animal rescue & am struggling with the feed bill. Im sure everyone knows times are hard & every little bit helps so please do not worry that your money is going into a negative cause!
About Me: Howdy! Im Dina! Im 17, a tomboy, & an animal lover & activist. My mother, & I have participated in a bunch of dog rescue (our house almost resembles the Bumpises (sp?) from "A Christmas Story" lol), woodpile cat rescue, & my most recent project is that I rescue horses meant for slaughter then work with them as much as possible. Then I sell them under a heavy contract, & the profits get divided up between hay, a truck or trailer payment (couldnt rescue un-handled & wild horses without them), & into rescuing another slaughter horse via the auction or feedlot (The last bit is currently on hold though due to lack of funds :( ). My other hobbies include breeding Silkie chickens, mutt chickens, Muscovy ducks, NPGA Pygmy & mixed Pygmy goats as well as many different crafts including bead work (the main thing being completely beaded browbands & sets to go on horse bridles), knitting, & small weaving projects when I get a wild hair.
About the Hammocks: Each hammock is hand sewn with fleece & embroidery thread. The design is simple but is also completely original & im always trying to improve. They will last. The only way one of these will break is if your critters chew the straps they hang from or chew up the entire hammock. With my rats ive had one group of rats that reduced their hammock to something similar to swiss cheese & before I replaced it they still loved hanging out in it. If your pets arent major chewers like that group a hammock can last over a year, but I always recommend rotating between, at least 2, hammocks every once in a while. Lately ive been sewing on thicker shorter straps. Some fleece is thinner than others but still works great. I don't have specific sizes,*(refer to below update) but each hammock in each group is generally the same size. The hammocks in the pics on each individual page are hammocks available now! To those who see my prices as high please understand that each hammock is hand sewn & each one takes me hours to complete from start to finish not to mention materials.
*As of November 2012 each size of hammock has been assigned exact measurements & any new hammocks have been & will be cut as such. For measurements for each size refer to that sizes individual page. I have left the "no specific sizes" note up because I still have a bunch of pre cuts & finished hammocks that were done before I changed my mind about this so this note stays up until all or most of those are sold. Hammocks cut under my new assigned measurements will be noted as such.
*Usually the hammocks posted are not the only ones available! I normally have a couple more that I haven't posted pics of yet so e-mail or call me to ask what else I have available :). Also out of all the hammocks I have on here ready made & pre cut those are not the only fabric patterns that I have on hand. I have many that I havent used in a while or at all yet so feel free to inquire about those as well :D.
*Ive been experimenting with clips lately & each hammock either has the largest bracelet findings I can locate or small metal rock climbing clips. Some with findings also have key chain rings on each strap for extra support. The clips are seen in the photographs & if not I will mention which clips are on which hammocks. Not very many hammocks have rock climbing clips because the only ones Ive been able to find so far are over a dollar a piece!
*All hammocks are machine washable! If you would like you can keep the clips on or remove them during the wash. I prefer to put mine on an extra rinse cycle but that's just me. Please note that depending on the fleece some can get an odd puffy look when washed but it does not affect anything. Unless Ive used a certain pattern for my animals before I can not guarantee which materials do that & which do not.
* Unfortunately I do not offer a guarantee because critters can & will be destructive little buggers but these hammocks are tough.
* I also have hammocks that have been cut but not sewn yet so you can also contact me about those & I can e-mail you with pictures & sizes :D. For these special priority orders I do require a non refundable 50% deposit on each special order hammock. I would offer refundable deposits, but 1 too many times Ive done a priority order only to either: never hear back from the customer again, or weeks later they contact me & say they do not have the money & by then they have wasted everyone's time.
*One last thing: These hammocks are designed for SMALL pets meaning animals in the rodent & weasel families. NOT small dogs & cats.
